During his career Marvin R. Banks developed
a proven skill set encompassing leadership, complex problem solving
and strategic planning. He executed a nineteen-year stint in the real
estate industry with essentially one organization that evolved from
single asset partnerships, under the Trammell Crow umbrella, into an
industry leading public company listed on the NYSE – Gables Residential.
Marvin retired from the company upon its sale to ING in late 2005. While
with Gables he was significantly involved in all aspects of the growth
of the company as a partner and senior executive for 15 years. His primary
responsibilities were concentrated on capital market activities, external
communications, and strategic planning.Responsible for the capital structure of the organization, Marvin orchestrated
the successful weathering of the real state capital market downturn
of the early 1990s and led the evaluation of an opportunity to merge
three autonomous businesses and execute a $475 million initial public
offering in 1994. Subsequent to the successful IPO, Marvin was the architect
and steward of the company’s capital structure. He was instrumental
in developing numerous innovative capital market products that allowed
the company to be one of the first of its peers to achieve an investment
grade balance sheet rating from Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s.
He was a leader in the company’s evaluation, negotiation, due diligence
and integration of M&A activity involving a $365 million entity acquisition
and the ultimate sale of Gables to ING for $2.8 billion. Marvin has
extensive capital market contacts in the public, the private and the
bank finance sectors and enjoys an exemplary reputation with the equity
investor community.
Marvin was a thought leader within Gables and an ad hoc member of the
Board of Directors where he had primary responsibility for presenting
the company’s strategy and tactical execution plans. His research driven
focus to complex problem solving and the strategic implication of various
decision alternatives provided guidance to the Board that allowed Gables
to successfully achieve its stated objectives. Marvin was a mentor within
the organization, a champion of its culture, and espoused a commitment
to cultivating leaders through education and the pursuit of personal
excellence.
Marvin and his wife, Gigi, have been married for 22 years and have a
son, Taylor, and a daughter, Kristen.
