Marvin Banks has extensive capital market contacts in the public, private and
bank finance sectors and enjoys an outstanding reputation with the equity investor
community. He is well-known for his leadership skills, complex decision analysis
and strategic planning abilities.
As Chief Financial Officer and member of the Executive Committee at Gables
Residential, he helped lead the company’s successful $475 million initial public
offering. After the successful IPO, he was the architect and steward of the company’s
capital structure. He was significantly involved in all aspects of the company’s growth
for 15 years; his primary focus included the capital markets, external communications
and strategic planning. He retired from Gables upon its sale to ING in 2005.
Before joining Cortland Partners in 2011, he served as an investor and strategic
adviser in the real estate arena. He teaches graduate courses on REITs at both Emory
University and Georgia State University, and has been on the faculty at The University
of Texas at Austin.
Banks also devotes time to serving on the boards of nonprofit organizations. He earned
his BBA in Accounting from The University of Texas, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
