Charlie has been in banking for 25 years. He organized Private Bank of Buckhead and its holding company,
Private Bancshares, Inc., and the bank opened its doors to the public on December 11, 2006. “In our sixth
year of business, the bank remains focused on providing our clients with access to bankers with decision-making
authority who are fanatical about the level of service we deliver,” Charlie says.
He started his banking career in New York with Bankers Trust Company, and later spent 10 years with Bank South
in Atlanta. In 1996, Charlie started The Buckhead Bank and, in 2001, Riverside Bank of Buckhead. He is frequently
quoted about banking and related topics, in media outlets ranging from the Atlanta Business Chronicle and the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution to BusinessWeek and CreditCards.com.
Charlie has undergraduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and The Wharton School of Business, and received
his MBA at Georgia State University. He also is a graduate of the LSU School of Banking and Leadership Atlanta (2005).
In November 2011 he was presented with the 2011 Robinson Alumni Entrepreneurship Award. In September of that year Charlie
was among the 55 nominees for the 2011 Leadership Character Award, CEO/President/Managing Partner category, in the prestigious
Turknett Leadership Character Awards. In January 2011 he was selected by the Buckhead Business Association as the 2010 honoree
for the Bullish on Buckhead Award. And, in 2010, Business to Business magazine and accounting partner, Gifford, Hillegass &
Ingwersen, selected Charlie among the Top 25 Entrepreneurs of the Year.
Charlie is a Director of the Buckhead Coalition, for which he serves as Treasurer, and is on the Board of the Georgia Tennis
Foundation and the Atlanta Track Club, for which he serves as President. He also is a member of the Board of Advisors for the
J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University, is on the Board of Councilors for The Carter Center and serves
on the board of McKenney’s, an Atlanta-based company that is one of the largest mechanical contractors in the United States.
He is a member of the Young Presidents’ Association, is Assistant District Governor for Rotary District 6900, and is a past
president of the Rotary Club of Buckhead. Charlie and his family live in Buckhead.
